About Council
The Central Highlands is a vibrant region with a diverse economy. About the Role
Reporting to the Coordinator People and Performance you will lead a diverse range of cases and be proactive in helping and supporting line managers around the disciplinary process. Council adheres to exacting standards and thoroughness in their management of IR cases resulting in very few situations where the Commission is involved. This role will also contribute to strengthening the understanding of IR processes across council with a strong emphasis on ensuring accountability by all in the organisation. The role will require strong technical skills in IR case management and the ability to integrate easily into a Council environment should you come from outside of local or state government. More specifically the role will focus on:
- Providing professional and accurate advice on the interpretation and application of industrial, local government and other relevant legislation, certified agreements, and awards.
- Coaching and supporting people leaders on the end-to-end management of ER/IR matters involving performance management, absence management, grievances, conduct and behaviour to build capability and ensure managers are informed, and supported to lead effectively.
- Continuing with the high standard set by Council for best practice workplace investigations and providing high level advice on people matters.
- Supporting people leaders, to conduct workplace investigations fairly and consistently.
- Actively maintain knowledge of relevant industrial instruments, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent and compliant application.
About You
You are the kind of person that others do not need to ask for help because you have already offered. Building relationships easily you can influence/communicate across all levels of an organisation and take others on a journey of ER/IR best practice. In summary, you are known as someone who just rolls up their sleeves and who can deal with all levels in an organisation to ensure things get done, and who follows problems through to the solution and takes pride in the outcome. A few prerequisites include:
- In depth knowledge of the IR Act and the ability to apply this in a local government setting if you do not have previous experience in this sector.
- Minimum five years’ experience in a senior role where industrial relations and workplace investigations were the focus of the roles.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking workplace investigations.
- Experience collaborating with external stakeholders including unions.
- Strong attention to detail, process driven with a deep understanding of the disciplinary framework and renowned for your strong influencing and engaging style of communication.

An hourly rate of circa $70 will be negotiated dependent upon the skills and experience you will bring to the role + Super and the benefits outlined above. The 2-year Contract role will be advertised shortly, and you will have the opportunity to apply whilst in the Interim Position if you are interested.
